The culture of a nation can be gauged by the number of libraries it nurtures. Inaugurated in 2014 in a rented building the Vivekananda Library is serving the general public of Hoshangabad especially the school and college going students in order to acclimatise themselves with the cultural heritage of India and to expand the horizon of their knowledge and also to improve their academic performance.The library is kept open from 2 pm to 7 pm everyday except Sunday. The life time membership fee is Rs.100 only. No additional charge is levied from the members. The library is currently having 1563 books, half a dozen periodicals and one daily (the Economic Times). A qualified librarian has been appointed to supervise its day-to-day activities.
The Samiti intends to enhance the no. of books from 1563 to 2500 in the upcoming years subject to availability of funds. An endowment fund to the tune of Rs.50 lakh is required to run the library on permanent basis.
