Sri Ramakrishna

Born of a poor Brahmin parents in a remote village of West Bengal in the early phase of Indian renaissance, in 50 years of his life, Sri Ramakrishna lived 5000 years of spiritual life of 300 million people of India. His life can be summed up as a saga of spiritual discipline and thus became a powerful searchlight into the true meaning of the Sanatana Dharma, the eternal religion of India in its multifarious dimensions. He practiced and professed complete renunciation of lust and wealth as well as name and fame. He perfected himself in two major religions of the world (Christianity and Islam) apart from various cults and concepts of Hinduism. In catholicity of ideas, he was as broad as the sky and in intensity of God-consciousness he was as deep as the ocean. He was indeed a phenomenon, otherwise, how can one explain a nursery dropout student mesmerizing the greatest intellectuals of the contemporary world including Prof F. Max Muller, Leo Tolstoy and Romain Rolland to name a few. He came to this world to awaken the spiritual consciousness of humankind and to washout the impurities of us all. May Shri Ramakrishna bless us with devotion and discrimination.

Sri Ma Sarada Devi

Sri Ma Sarada Devi ,popularly known as the Holy Mother, was the spiritual consort of
Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna. Married to Sri Ramakrishna at the tender age of four, she
eventually became the Mother of all irrespective of caste, creed, religion and nation by
her unbounded love and sympathy towards the greatest and the lowliest of men and
women alike. In her the ideal of greatest womanhood was manifested in all the stages of
life, as daughter, as wife and above all as mother. With no formal education, she was
perhaps the last representative of the traditional Indian women and surely the pioneer of
modern Indian womanhood. Her whole life was a long stillness of prayer. She was an
embodiment of purity, patience and forbearance and has been the ultimate refuse for
both monks and householders. May Holy Mother bless us with purity, peace and
prosperity.

Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda, the most precious jewel among the disciples of Sri Ramakrishna,
was born in Kolkata in an aristocratic family and was brought up with the British education
system. He learnt the highest principles of Sanatan Dharma from Sri Ramakrishna and
preached them in scientific arguments of modern age. He gained first hand knowledge
of the plights and problems of his countrymen through years of wandering around India
after taking Sannyasa. His mission in life took final shape at the granite rock of Kannya
Kumari, the last tip of the country. His plan to revive the condition of the people of India
both economically and spiritually forced him to take a plunge into the world at large. In
1893 he went to Chicago (USA) and delivered his epoch making speech at the
Parliament of Religions. From that point of time India got her self-identity back and after
prolonged hibernation Hinduism bloomed in finest colour. In his lectures to the West he
explained Vedanta in its highest and widest form freely using the arguments from
modern psychology and biological sciences. In the East his message was practical
Vedanta with its emphasis on manliness, renunciation and service. Swamiji was a multi-
dimentional genius. Physically he was as handsome as Greek Gods. Changing the
thought currents of the world and  reforming the tenets of Hinduism are
some of his intellectual attainments and experiencing Nirvikalpa Samadhi at least four
times shows his spiritual stature. Swami Vivekananda, the leader of leaders, is rightly
considered as the Father of Indian Nationalism. May Swamiji bless us with manliness,
renunciation and spirit of service.
